Antique exvoto (retablo), Our Lady

Early 20th century painted exvoto. In Mexico and New Mexico and other countries in the Americas, exvotos were ssentially an illustrated prayer, asking a saint for help with a problem. This exvoto was painted was on behalf of “Anita Rodriguez,” asking for help with an illness, from “Maria Santisima” referring to the Church of San Juan de los Lagos. A painterly piece and the practiced artist had a lovely sense of space, color and form. This came from a respected collection of exvotos gathered in California.

The piece is approximately 10″ x 12″ paint on tin. In good antique condition with wear to the tin and paint, appropriate for its age.
