M.D. Dolph was born in Wisconsin in 1884. She studied in her home state and then moved to Wyoming in the 1930s. Her work was shown in the National Exhibition of American Art at Rockefeller Center in New York City in 1936. She painted in various parts of the West and it appears that she must have settled in California for a time as the label on the back of the painting has an address in Twenty Nine Palms.
This painting is titled “The Joshua Tree” on the lable but, no date. The visible portion of the painting is just over 3″ x 3″ and the frame is 4 3/4″ square. The painting is in excellent condition with it’s original label.
