Goff signed the back of the board and titled the work “Merida (Yucatan).” He signed and dated the work again on the old backing board with the slightly different title, ” ‘Merida Cathedral’ (Yucatan), Gouache On Panel by Lloyd Lozes Goff.” Below that is the inscription “To Mrs E.E. Baca, in appreciation for all her legal help. Sincerely, Lloyd Lozes Goff, April 1977, Albuquerque, N.M.”
Born in Dallas, Texas, Lloyd Lozes Goff called New Mexico home. He studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the University of New Mexico. He was an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of New Mexico and was Acting Head of the Art Department from 1944-47.
Goff’s paintings have been exhibited at: the Carnegie Institute, Whitney Museum of American Art, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, the 1939 World’s Fair in New York, San Francisco Art Association, the New Mexico Museum of Art, and the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts.
Goff’s work is in collections around North America and Mexico.
