From somewhere in the far Northwest, could be Eskimo, or more properly Inuit, Aleut or Inupiaq, this is a very old stone blade (I think a type of slate) with a wood handle. These came together, like an ulu. Note that this blade may have had a different handle at some point but the two pieces fit together now. Together, it measures 2 3/4″ top of handle to bottom of blade. Separately, the blade is 3 1/2″ x 1 7/8″ and the handle separate is 3 7/8″ x 1 3/8.” I know there are current versions of ulu blades, this is not one of those. This is old, worn, chipped and had seen a lot of use. The blade is still impressively sharp! The handle is old, cracked and very worn. The wood is chipping and flaking, all evidence of good age.
