Old Peruvian bone vomit stick

In Stock

South American carved bone vomit stick.

An amazing ethnographic piece!  This is a bone (maybe llama) carved into a condor’s head and the figure of a spotted cat, both with inlaid shell eyes with the lower part carefully smoothed and polished.  Vomit sticks are used as a part of an hallucinogen induced vision experience in various parts of South America where ingested hallucinogens are purged to induce “visions.”

The stick is 10 1/2″ long x 1 1/2″ at the widest part of the joint.  Clearly old and used, the head has been repaired at some point.   The surface of the long shaft is consistent with the use, very smooth but with a recent chip at the tip.
