A lovely devotional piece, an old Miraculous medal with a detailed raised image of the Virgin Mary, and the text, “O Marie Concue Sans Peche Priez Pour Nous Qui Avons Re Cours A Vous” with “1830” below. On the reverse, the “M” for Mary with Jesus’ cross, Mary’s 12 stars (referring to the 12 apostles and the 12 tribes of Israel), the sacred heart of Jesus and the immaculate heart of Mary at the bottom. This medal first appeared in Paris in 1830 after St. Catherine Labouré, a Sister of Charity, after Mary appeared to Catherine. I’m dating this medal to the late 1800s.
Made of bronze or a similar alloy. Substantial, detailed, worn and loved. 1 1/8″ (3.175 mm) in diameter.
