A lovely old Native American basket. I believe it’s a California Mission basket. Made for use, the weaver used juncus stems and roots over a deer grass core so, the basket has the warm golds of juncus as the main fiber. The basket was made for use, probably for storage. There are remnants of whatever was stored inside still in the basket and there is substantial wear overall. Part of the original rim is gone but was neatly trimmed. There is wear and some stitch loss around the body and underneath but the basket is in good sturdy condition overall. 7″ tall x approximately 11″ wide.
