An amazing carved piece! An extremely detailed eagle head with defined feathers and NW Coast totem designs carved into a deer or caribou antler. Look closely at the photos because the carving is amazing, detailed, dimensional. For the eagle’s penetrating eyes, I can’t tell if the artist inset something or if s/he carved through layers to get the translucent material, like a cameo.
I can’t believe a piece like this is not signed but I can’t find anything. There is a circle in the totem area, that is less polished than the raised carved area that looks like it might once have had something in it, perhaps a signature plaque. I would appreciate any information about this artist if anyone knows.
The whole piece is about 6 1/2″ from the beak to the end of either branch and, the base of the antler, where the eagle’s face is carved, about 1 1/2″ x 1 3/4.” In excellent condition.
