An unusual piece that was used in a New Mexico Pueblo, this is a rattle made of an American river snapping turtle. The body was fully dried and then sealed and finished with painted hide and red pigment. The turtle’s green eyes struck me – they appear to be kernels of corn, painted green and set in. Cool piece, great sound when shaken. About 16″ long x 7 1/4″ wide.
